The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce that Kiera Lyons of the NAIT Ooks has been named the 2026 CCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
Lyons’ impact extends beyond wins and losses. She has played a key role in the development of several standout student-athletes, including Mikah Reed, who set the ACAC single-game three-point record this season, and Payton Nielson, who previously broke the ACAC record for most points scored in a single game. These accomplishments reflect Lyons’ ability to help her players reach new levels of success on the court. Prior to becoming head coach at NAIT, Lyons spent time as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Stingers, gaining valuable experience at the professional level. She continues to stay connected to the basketball community through youth camps and development initiatives with the Stingers organization, helping grow the game at the grassroots level. Lyons is equally committed to supporting her student-athletes off the court. She places a strong emphasis on academic success and personal development, ensuring her players are prepared for life beyond basketball. Known for her personable approach, Lyons works closely with her athletes to help them succeed both during their collegiate careers and in the next stages of their lives. “Kiera’s hard work and determination have resulted in getting the NAIT women’s basketball team back to the top of the ACAC standings,” said Alexandra Galenza , NAIT Athletics. “She expects a lot out of her players and is able to get their best effort every game. NAIT Athletics would like to congratulate Kiera on this special award.” The CCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year recipient receives a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA.
