DAY 1 RECAP: CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship

OSHAWA, Ont. - The quarter-final stage of the 2025 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship saw all four matches end in only three sets, with VIU, Humber, Lakeland and Garneau advancing to the semifinal round. |

In the first match of the day, the VIU Mariners defeated the Providence Pilots in three sets, by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-19. For the Mariners, Aimee Skinner was named 4imprint player of the match with an 18 kill performance on 31 total attempts, along with seven digs, two service aces and a solo block for 21.0 points. Grace Greene was also in double-digit point territory with 10.0, hitting for 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Keira Crellin finished with 30 assists through three sets. Tyra Peters and Serena Algera were the offensive leaders for the Pilots with nine kills each, while Peters also recorded a team-leading 10 digs. Much off the offence flowed through Amanda Bergen who finished the match with 27 assists. Algera was named the player of the match for the side from Manitoba. |

The next match had a similar result as the Humber Hawks swept the Augustana Vikings, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22. Two players hit for 10 kills in the match, namely Hannah Manners and Amy Connelly. Of the 41 digs registered for Humber, 18 of them came from Reese Chloette and 11 from Kennedy Williscroft. Williscroft also had 25 assists, five service aces, two kills and a block, earning player of the match honours for Humber. Taryn Watson had a standout performance for the Vikings with 16 kills for a .270 hitting percentage and 17.0 points. Hadley Ziemmer finished the afternoon with 10.0 points, scoring with seven kills, two service aces and a block. Phaedra Bruens led the team in assists with 26 and digs with 14. |

It was a packed crowd for the 6:00 PM match as the host Durham Lords took on the defending national champion Lakeland Rustlers. Like the matches before it, Lakeland completed the sweep with 25-13, 25-11 and 25-14 wins over the Lords. Lana Matthews was the player of the match for the winners with nine kills, six digs, three blocks and a service ace for 13.0 points. Avery Bates also had a performance to remember with 11 kills on 22 attempts and two solo blocks. Emma Letkeman was the assist leader with 19. Erin Black was Durham’s player of the match, registering seven assists and a dig in the match. Elizabeth McFarland stepped up with six kills on 16 attempts, while Chelsea Oke stood out with three kills and eight digs. |

In the final match of the night, Garneau completed the trend of 3-0 finishes after defeating Mount Allison 25-18, 25-17 and 25-21. Marilou Couture had an unbelievable evening for the Elans, hitting 19 kills on 32 attempts for a .531 hitting percentage, to go along with seven digs, a block and a service ace to be named the player of the match for Garneau. Maëli Cormier stepped up in a big way with 10 kills and a trio of service aces, while Florence Campeau was always reliable for the perfect set with 33 assists. Erica Astephen earned player of the match honours for Mount Allison, hitting eight kills on 11 attempts and blocking two shots. Julia Henry was not far behind with seven kills and six digs, while Ana McCain joined Astephen at the net with two blocks. The schedule for Thursday is now set. Providence and Augustana will kick-off the bronze quarter-finals at 12:00 PM, followed by Durham against Mount Allison at 2:00 PM. Following a small break in action, VIU will take on Humber in their semifinal match and the day will end with a showdown between Lakeland and Garneau. |
