Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics head coach Danny De Palma has been named the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.
“Danny has been integral to the men's basketball team's success,” said Angela Barrett-Jewers, Director of Athletics and Recreation at MSVU. “His passion for his players' success both on and off the court is evident in all he does to advance the Mystics program. Danny's impact has been felt with wins, including three conference championship titles in his four seasons with us, and in the continued academic success of his student-athletes.” Beyond his coaching accolades, De Palma is deeply committed to his student-athletes' academic and professional success. He regularly checks in on their academic progress, assists them in securing employment opportunities in the spring and summer, and raises funds through summer leagues and camp programming. Additionally, he has integrated mental skills training into the team’s season plan to enhance player performance both on and off the court. "De Palma’s impact on the Mount Saint Vincent University men's basketball program has been nothing short of remarkable. Leading the Mystics to an undefeated regular season in one of the most competitive ACAA campaigns to date is a testament to his leadership, preparation, and commitment to excellence. His ability to develop talent, foster a strong team culture, and support his athletes beyond the court makes him a truly deserving recipient of the 2025 CCAA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year award," added Jonathan Lambert CCAA National Men's Basketball Convenor. The CCAA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year recipient receives a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA.

Since taking over as MSVU's head coach in 2021, De Palma has led the Mystics to continuous improvement, culminating in their second ACAA title under his leadership in 2024. His leadership also helped develop outstanding individual talent, with Jaydan Smith earning ACAA Player of the Year and a CCAA All-Canadian selection and Jaxon Smith was named ACAA Defensive Player of the Year. De Palma led the Mystics to an undefeated 18-0 regular season record in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA), improving upon last year’s 13-5 campaign that saw the team claim the conference championship.
