The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is thrilled to announce that Seneca College has been awarded the prestigious CCAA Innovation Award. This accolade recognizes the remarkable efforts and innovative initiatives that Seneca has implemented in its athletic programs, setting new standards for excellence and engagement in collegiate sports. The award was formally presented at the CCAA Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, June 12th, in Ottawa. Seneca College, with its unwavering commitment, has consistently demonstrated its dedication to enhancing the student-athlete experience through groundbreaking initiatives. One of the most notable projects involved a partnership with the Seneca First Peoples department and an Indigenous artist, a Seneca alumnus. This collaboration resulted in the creation of unique Indigenous artwork designed explicitly for the championships, significantly enhancing the awards for All-Canadians, Coach of the Year, and Gold Medalists. This partnership is a testament to Seneca’s dedication to understanding, partnership, and reconciliation with the Indigenous community and the positive change it has brought to the student-athlete experience. In addition to the Indigenous partnership, Seneca significantly enhanced the student-athlete experience during the championships. Seneca introduced a dramatic player introduction sequence for the gold medal matches, featuring spotlight entries, fog machines with LED lights reflecting school colors, and enthusiastic announcements of players and their institutions. The closing ceremonies were equally impressive, with streamer cannons adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Seneca also excelled in streaming the event, successfully broadcasting all matches from rounds 1-5 across three courts. The streaming setup included end-line cameras capturing the entire court, score overlays, and additional cameras for tight shots of player reactions. The gold medal matches featured a multi-camera production, providing dynamic views and capturing the emotional highs of the competition. The webcast included the medal ceremonies, allowing viewers to share the players' excitement and triumphs. The feedback from student-athletes, coaches, and spectators has been overwhelmingly positive, a true testament to the success and impact of Seneca's initiatives. Participants praised the championships' professional and elite atmosphere, the unique feeling of the player introductions, and the connection with the Indigenous community through the unique artwork. The webcast and social media coverage further elevated the event, showcasing the athletes' skills and the excitement of the matches. Bob Murray, CCAA VP Marketing, said, “An innovative spirit is at the heart of what makes an athletic department’s community and campus impact great. Over the last year, Seneca demonstrated that spirit in the delivery of sports programming and championships. Their athlete experience first model, attention to detail, and the uniqueness of their championship hosting significantly impacted their campus community and beyond.” Seneca's innovative approach to marketing, communication, and technological advancements in its athletic programs has significantly impacted the athletic department. The initiatives have enhanced the participants' experience and set a new benchmark for future events. |
