The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce the participants for the landmark 20th season of the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP). This program, funded by Sport Canada, is dedicated to identifying and supporting female graduated student-athletes with a passion for coaching. It provides them opportunities to develop their coaching skills through hands-on experience in CCAA varsity sports. As the CCAA celebrates this significant milestone, it is fitting that a recent longitudinal study was conducted to gauge the program's impact in meeting its goals. The study shows that the CCAA has significantly increased opportunities for young women in coaching over the past two decades, providing an average of 16 opportunities annually for female apprentices to gain valuable coaching experiences. A recent study revealed that 62% of these apprentices continue to coach within the Canadian Sport System, demonstrating the program's lasting impact. “The CCAA has been a leader for the past 20 years in providing opportunity for women to become involved in coaching at the collegiate level," said Danielle Cyr, CCAA FACP Leadership Program Facilitator. “Every apprentice involved in the FACP has pursued and completed NCCP certification and professional development, becoming more qualified and experienced coaches." CCAA Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Murray-MacDonell added, “Hand in hand with apprentice coach learning comes the advancement of Mentor Coaches who need to be Certified Coaches and effective leaders in passing along their knowledge and skills to budding coaches. Time after time Head coaches have commented that they have learned as much from the Mentoring experience as their apprentice.” This season, the FACP will feature 16 female apprentices, seven returning apprentices, and eight first-year participants. Each of the CCAA’s six-member conferences will be represented, underscoring the nationwide commitment to fostering female coaching talent. Returning Apprentices: The following apprentices will be reunited with their mentors from the previous season, continuing their development and contributing to their respective varsity programs.
The program is excited to welcome 8 new apprentices who will embark on their coaching journeys this season.
