National Championships: Day 1 Recap
After one day down at the CCAA Curling National Championships at the Highland Country Club in London, only one team remained undefeated; last year’s Women’s National Champions, the Fanshawe Falcons. The excitement continues on Thursday, with three more draws on the day; the first beginning at 8 a.m. EST.
Women’s Draw:
On the Women’s side, the home Fanshawe Falcons currently sit in first place at 3-0 with wins over the Niagara Knights, NAIT Ooks and Holland Hurricanes. The Red Deer Queens and Seneca Sting are tied for second at 2-1. The Confederation Thunderhawks and the Niagara Knights were winless on the opening day but only played two games and will look to get in the win column early, as they both play in the first draw tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. EST.
Men’s Draw:
There is no clear cut leader at the top of the men’s standings, with the Fanshawe Falcons, Humber Hawks, Red Deer Kings and Sault Cougars all sitting at 2-1 on the day. Last year’s National Champions, the Fleming Knights, struggled out of the gate and are currently sitting at 1-2. With every team having a record of either 2-1 or 1-2, an exciting day is set up forThursday. All eight men’s teams will be back in action in the first draw of the morning at 8 a.m. EST.
