The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce the induction of former Cégep Garneau Élans women's volleyball standout Claudia Houle into the CCAA Hall of Fame. One of the most accomplished student-athletes in the history of the Élans program, Houle helped establish a dynasty at the national level, leading Garneau to three consecutive CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championships from 2001 to 2003. A dominant force on the court, Houle was named CCAA Player of the Year in both 2002 and 2003 and earned Championship Most Valuable Player honours in each of those seasons. In 2003, her remarkable accomplishments were further recognized when she was named the CCAA All-Sports Athlete of the Year, a distinction that remains unmatched among Élans student-athletes. Following her collegiate career, Houle continued her volleyball journey at the university level in the United States, building on the foundation established during her time with the Élans. Reflecting on her three seasons at Garneau, Houle remembers far more than the championships and awards. “My three years at Garneau were filled with wonderful emotions, victories, camaraderie, hard work, and perseverance,” said Houle. “It was a beautiful chapter at the beginning of my life.” Among countless memorable moments, one match stands above the rest. Houle recalls the 2002 national championship final against Malaspina University College, a dramatic five-set battle that tested every ounce of determination possessed by the Élans squad. “The final against Malaspina in 2002 was unforgettable,” she said. “I was exhausted and cramping on every jump, but I still wanted the ball. The final set was incredibly close.” While her individual accolades place her among the most decorated volleyball players in CCAA history, Houle credits her success to the people around her. “Being part of the Garneau team was a privilege, and being recognized by the CCAA was the cherry on top,” she said. “This honour reflects the work of an entire team. I was surrounded by wonderful people whose influence helped me grow both as a volleyball player and as a person.” The news of her Hall of Fame induction came as a surprise, but one she describes as a tremendous honour. Through her leadership, competitive spirit, and role in one of the most successful eras in CCAA women's volleyball history, Houle leaves a lasting legacy that continues to inspire future generations of student-athletes. The CCAA proudly welcomed Claudia Houle into the CCAA Hall of Fame during a celebration held on June 16 at Cégep Montmorency.
