Niagara to welcome CCAA’s best in Women’s Volleyball

Niagara College will host of the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution will host the event at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre in Welland, ON, from March 6-9, 2019.

“Niagara College is no stranger to hosting National Championships,” said Fred Batley, CCAA Women’s Volleyball Convenor. “With world-class athletic facilities and the Niagara area hospitality and attractions, the student-athletes, coaches and spectators will be in for an amazing and exciting National Championship in 2019.”

Niagara College has a rich history in the sport of volleyball and a men’s program which has proven to be one of the best in Canada. The women’s program has followed that path in recent years, having captured OCAA medals in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Knights have consistently been ranked as one of the top five teams in the OCAA and top 15 in the CCAA.

In 2011, the Niagara College Department of Athletics and Recreation proudly hosted its first ever CCAA National Championship in the newly built Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Two years after hosting CCAA Women’s Basketball, Niagara once again stepped up to the plate to host the 2013 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship.

“It is our intention, with the support of our corporate partners, the campus community, and the region’s volleyball community, to stage yet another successful CCAA National Championship,” said Ray Sarkis, Intercollegiate Coordinator at Niagara. “Our Department of Athletics and Recreation’s organizing committee are especially honoured to host this prestigious national event.”

In recent years, Niagara has also hosted several OCAA Provincial Championships, including Men’s Soccer (2014), Golf (2015), Women’s Basketball (2016), and Men’s Basketball (2018).

“We have a great history in hosting very successful events and it is our intention to provide the student-athletes an experience which they will remember for years to come,” said Sarkis.

The 2018 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by GPRC in Grande Prairie, AB, from March 7-10.
