Volleyball Canada selects Senior Women’s National Team
May 11, 2016 – Volleyball Canada has selected players for the Women’s Senior A National Team and seven former Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association student-athletes have made the cut.
Setters Dani Smith and Katia Forcier, libero Kristen Moncks and outside hitters Marisa Field, Elly Wendel, Marie-Alex Bélanger and Marie-Sophie Nadeau are CCAA alumni.

“We are excited about the good mix of veteran players and a lot of new talent coming up through the system,” said women’s team head coach Arnd (Lupo) Ludwig in a release.
“We’re excited to be back training at the centre in Winnipeg, and it’s with renewed enthusiasm that we will be preparing for the FIVB World Grand Prix next month.”
Smith of Beaverlodge, AB, suited up for the VIU Mariners in the PACWEST. She was a first team All-Star for the VIU squad that captured gold on home soil at the 2012 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship. Smith is a two-time CCAA All-Canadian (2012, 2013).
Moncks of Standard, AB, is a former student-athlete who played in the ACAC for the Medicine Hat Rattlers. Field, a former CCAA Academic All-Canadian, suited up for the UBC Okanagan Heat in the PACWEST.
Wendel was a CCAA All-Canadian with the Briercrest Clippers of the ACAC. She was also the recipient of the CCAA National Scholar and CCAA Academic All-Canadian awards.
Other CCAA alumni on the team include Forcier (Bois-de-Boulogne) as well as Bélanger (Édouard-Montpetit) and Nadeau (Bois-de-Boulogne).
The women’s team will also compete at the NORCECA Pan Am Cup in Santo Domingo from June 30 to July 11.
