Lakeland College to host 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship

LakelandJanuary 13, 2012 – The 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Lakeland College in Lloydminster, Alta.

Lakeland College has been in existence since 1913, and the 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be a major part of the institution’s centennial celebrations.

Eight of the nation’s top teams will compete in the national championship tournament, taking place March 7-9, 2013. As hosts, the Lakeland College Rustlers are automatically entitled to a berth.

“We strongly support Lakeland College Athletics’ bid for the 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship,” says Jeff Mulligan, mayor of Lloydminster. “We have superb facilities that routinely deliver a world class experience to athletes, coaches and fans alike. Together we’ll ensure the 2013 CCAA Women’s National Volleyball Championships create the best of experiences and memories on record.”

The city of Lloydminster has the unusual geographic distinction of straddling the provincial border between Alberta and Saskatchewan. It has a strong history of hosting successful sporting events, including Alberta and Saskatchewan’s Summer Games. The host committee has already obtained support from Alberta Volleyball, the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association, Lloydminster Tourism and the Chamber of Commerce. Lloydminster will concurrently host the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association U18 women’s tournament, known as the Sask Cup.
