Tuesday November 8, 2011 - The CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) has appointed Sergio Teixeira the 2011 CCAA Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year.

Teixeira is head coach of the NAIT Ooks women’s soccer team in Edmonton, Alta.

“Sergio Teixeira’s not just focused on soccer, he’s implicated in his players’ academics,” says Vince Amato, CCAA’s vice-president of marketing. “And there are lots of good things happening on the field as well.”

The NAIT Ooks have been first in the CCAA national rankings throughout the year, holding a perfect regular season record of 10 wins. That’s an improvement over last season’s 7-2-1 record, when they earned a silver finish at the 2010 CCAA Big Kahuna Soccer National Championships.

In addition to leading the Ooks on the pitch, Teixeira monitors players’ academics and attendance. He’s also involved with the Alberta Soccer Association, Jasper Place Soccer Institute and the Canadian Soccer Association’s national training centre; several players have gone on to represent Canada in U-17 and U-20 programs. He has a national-level B license from the Coaching Association of Canada, and aspires to obtain his A license.

The other nominees for 2011 CCAA Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year were David Desloges of the Collège François-Xavier-Garneau Élans, Tom McManus of the Thompson Rivers University Wolf Pack, Martin Painter of the Fanshawe College Falcons, and Stacey Stocco of the University of King’s College Blue Devils. 

Sergio Teixeira received the award Tuesday, November 8 at the 2011 CCAA Soccer National Championships in Quebec City, Que. CCAA Coach of the Year winners receive a customized CCAA ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
