Women's Soccer Athletes of the Month

November 4, 2008--The CCAA announced today the CCAA Soccer Athletes of the Month for October. The CCAA Athlete of the Month program recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding event performance and athletic accomplishments during that month.

Awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each conference participating in the CCAA Soccer; the five conferences are Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA), Fédération québécoise du sport étudiant (FQSE) Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association (BCCAA).

From British Columbia:

Midfielder, Shantelle Cooper is in her final year of Arts Program at Thompson Rivers University.  Shantelle is one of the strongest players in the BCCAA.  Captain for the WolfPack, this fifth year veteran is known for her hard work and physical play.  Shantelle plays with confidence and leads by example.  Her skill and tenacity are a large reason the WolfPack led the BCCAA in goals against in the month of October.

From Alberta:

Mount Royal College’s, Ashley Dixon is in her third year of the Nursing Program.  Ashley is recognized as one of the premier players in the ACAC.  Ashley is the catalyst behind the Cougars number one ranked defense, allowing only two goals in the 2008-2009 season.  Impressive for a defender,  Dixon ranked tenth in the ACAC South Division in goals.

From Ontario:

First year Early Childhood Education student at Durham College, Katie Watts has proven to be a dominant force on the field.   It has been an unbelievable rookie season for Katie, as she established the new single-season goal scoring record with 20 goals, surpassing the former record that had been held for seventeen years.

From Quebec:

Anchoring the defense, third year student-athlete Maude-Nancy Durette from Collège François-Xavier Garneau.   Captain of the Elans, Maude is the defensive leader on the team.   She has recorded more than 720 minutes of playing time in nine matches, during which the opposition did not score a goal.  She offers a positive attitude and influence to her teammates and knows what to do in order to win.

From the Atlantic:

Second year striker, Sarah Parker is from Mount Saint Vincent University.  Sarah has contributed greatly to the Mystic’s success adding another offensive dimension to the game. A real team player, Sarah Parker has scored in almost every game this season and on many occasions, Parker has scored the game winning goal. Her quick turns and acceleration leave opposing defenders in chase mode and she has continued to refine her finishing ability and has found the back of the net 16 times this season becoming the top goal scorer in the ACAA.

Congratulations to all!
