NAME: Caitlin Nyhus
INSTITUTION: UBC Okanagan
SPORT: Volleyball
YEAR: 4th
ACADEMIC PROGRAM: Bachelor of Science 
HIGH SCHOOL: Penticton Secondary

IMPRESSIVE STATS:

Caitlin Nyhus is a 4th year setter for UBC O and last years BCCAA Provincial Championship MVP. Nyhus is a graduate of Penticton Secondary. At UBC O she has developed her game and as a team leader, brings a very consistent style of play and a fiery competitive streak to every match. The team looks to Caitlin to provide the extra spark with her on-the-floor leadership.  

Nyhus had two very solid matches for the Heat in the opening weekend of BCCAA play. UBC O travelled to Victoria were they swept Camosun 3-0 on Friday and then again on Saturday. Nyhus kept the offence unpredictable and the other team off balance by spreading the offence around. In both matches she made some key plays at important junctures and also led the team in digs in the 2nd match. Nyhus would finish the weekend with 2 kills, 1 ace and 17 digs.

    IMPRESSIVE STATS:

    Steve Berkenpas is in his 3rd year of eligibility and second season with the Bearcats.  This 6”6 right side player played for the Bearcats in 2005-06 then Dalhousie University in 2007-08 and finally back at CBC this season.

    Berkenpas was a huge reason why the Bearcats were able to get a season opening win on Saturday against cross town rival UFV.  It was an exciting 5 set match with UFV winning games one and two. CBC would come back to win the next three games to take the match 3-2. Berkenpas finished the match with 23 kills, 5 blocks and 4 aces. 

    His leadership and exceptional play a big role in the ‘Cats win. Next up for the ‘Cats is a road trip to Victoria to play the Chargers on Saturday and Sunday, November 7th and 8th
