March 17, 2011 - Guillaume Giroux is the winner of the 2011 CCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Giroux is the head coach of the Collège Montmorency Nomades in Laval, Québec.

“Montmorency did not lose any CCAA league games, and they’re undefeated in the Quebec conference. That’s quite a feat,” stated Mireille Beland, CCAA women’s basketball convenor. “Their performance has been consistent and they’re always in the national rankings.”

Giroux has taught performance fundamentals to a roster that has included two-time RSEQ MVP and Junior National Team member Mariam Sylla, two RSEQ All Stars, and several players who have since been recruited to the CIS and NCAA divisions. As an academic supervisor he pushes his athletes to be responsible on the court as well as in their studies.

The Montmorency Nomades had a perfect 20-0 ranking, finishing first in the CCAA rankings and earning them the top seed at the CCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.

The other nominees for the coach of the year were Marnie Buchanan of Georgian College, Fred Connors of St. Thomas University, Mike Evans of Langara College and Donovan Martin of SAIT Polytechnic.

Guillaume Giroux received the award Wednesday, March 16th at the Belair Direct CCAA All Canadian Banquet at the CCAA 2011 Women’s Basketball Championships in Welland, Ontario. Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
