UBC-Okanagan Prepares for the Arrival of Women’s Basketball into BC
The 2010 CCAA Women’s National Basketball Championships are right around the corner, as teams gear up and ready themselves for a weekend of face paced competition. The championships will be hosted at the University of British Columbia-Okanagan, March 18-20th.
As the final preparations take place, National Women’s Basketball Convenor, Mireille Beland, comments on the upcoming championships, “The 2010 National Championship will be a very competitive one. All 8 teams attending the tournament were ranked in the top 15 this season. We also have Sheridan, Dawson and Sainte-Foy present who were ranked #1 at some point this season. Sainte-Foy will try to win their third in a row but will have to face BCCAA winner and host UBC-O in the first round”.
The 2010 CCAA Championships features the top 8 women’s teams in Canada, seeded in the following order:
- Sheridan College
- Dawson College
- SAIT
- UBC-Okanagan
- Cégep de Sainte-Foy
- Mount Saint Vincent University
- Lethbridge College
- Camosun College
The CCAA All Canadian Awards Banquet will precede the competition, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17th. The competition will begin on the following day, the schedule is as follows:
Thursday March 18
Game 1 1:00pm #2 Dawson vs. #7 Lethbridge
Game 2 3:00pm #3 SAIT vs. #6 MSVU
Game 3 6:00pm #4 UBC O vs. #5 Sainte Foy
Game 4 8:00pm #1 Sheridan vs. #8 Camosun
Friday March 19
Game 5 1:00pm Loser of Game 1 vs. loser of game 2
Game 6 3:00pm Loser of game 3 vs. loser of game 4
Game 7 6:00pm Winner of game 1 vs. winner of game 2
Game 8 8:00pm Winner of game 3 vs. winner of game 4
Saturday March 20
