2009 CCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship About to Begin

(Cornwall, Ont. – March 12, 2009)  The top women’s basketball teams in the CCAA will be making the trip to Sainte-Foy next week as they will host the 2009 CCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship. The tournament will begin March 18th with all eight teams competing for the title of national champions. The tournament champions will be crowned March 21st as the tournament comes to a close.

When asked how things were coming together at Sainte-Foy, Marlène Lévesque, Organizing Committee Director had this to say, “This is the first time we have had the privelage of hosting the CCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship and everything has been put in place to make this event a success. More than 75 volunteer students and staff have been working to make sure all the needs of the athletes will be met. The talent that will be on display is going to be exceptional with the top teams from across the country putting their skills to the test. This will be the place to be for all bastketball fanatics. All 13 games can be viewed on our website through webtv at www.basketball2009.ca”.

The 2009 CCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship features the top eight women’s basketball teams in Canada, seeding in the following order:

1) Lethbridge College
2) Sheridan College
3) Dawson College
4) Camosun College
5) Cegep de Sainte-Foy
6) Grant MacEwan College
7) St Thomas University
8) Seneca College


The CCAA All Canadian Awards Banquet will precede the competition, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18th. The competition will begin on the following day, the schedule is as follows:

Thursday March 19th 

Game #1                1pm - Lethbridge vs Seneca
Game #2                3pm - Dawsone vs MacEwan
Game #3                6pm - Camosun vs Sainte-Foy
Game #4                8pm - Sheridan vs St-Thomas


Friday March 20th

Game #7                6pm - winner game 1 vs winner game 2
Game #8                8pm - winner game 3 vs winner game 4


Saturday March 21st

Game #11              1pm – loser game 5 vs loser game 6 (7th & 8th place)
Game #12              6pm – winner game 9 vs winner game 10 (Bronze Medal)
Game #13              8pm – winner game 7 vs winner game 8 (Gold Medal)


The Closing Ceremony and Awards Presentation will take place immediately following the final match.
