CCAA Athletic Director Wins Funding for Athletics Centre

Olds100December 16, 2011 - Greg Lendvay, director of health and wellness/athletics at Olds College in Olds, Alta. is the winner of the institution's $100,000 Centennial Innovation Fund.

In celebration of Olds College's centennial, staff, students, and alumni were invited to submit proposals for up to $100,000 for sustainable projects that demonstrated creativity and positively impacted students. Lendvay submitted a proposal  to develop a 4,000 square-foot Canadian Centre for Rural High Performance, and was declared the winner following an online vote.

In his proposal Lendvay explained the “Canadian Centre for Rural High Performance will open the door for the development of sports academies and will provide opportunities for Olds College to collaborate with national and provincial organizations. Olds College conference services will also benefit from the centre, as the facility will attract national and provincial sports teams, which will generate revenue for the College.”

Olds College President H.J (Tom) Thompson is proud of the quality of the proposals submitted.  “I am anticipating that Greg’s winning submission, the Canadian Centre for Rural High Performance, will greatly benefit the future of Olds College and our students.  Not only will the Centre open doors for the College in terms of partnerships, it is going to set the bar for excellent sports training and sports academia in Alberta.”
