August 16, 2011 – Canada’s largest intercollegiate sport organization has changed its name.  

The former Canadian Colleges Athletic Association, commonly known as the CCAA, is now the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. The new name better reflects the CCAA’s membership, which includes colleges, universities, cégeps and technical institutes.

"We're very happy with the change"  says Sandra Murray-MacDonell, CCAA’s executive director.  "The new name expresses the growing diversity of our members."

The name change was voted on and approved at the Association’s annual general meeting earlier this summer and takes effect immediately.

The CCAA was founded in 1974 to oversee interprovincial competition among colleges in six provinces. Since that time, the group’s membership has grown to include 95 member-institutions in eight provinces. The CCAA holds nine annual national championships in golf, soccer, cross-country running, badminton, volleyball and basketball.

Hosts for the CCAA 2011-2012 championship season are as follows:

    Golf: October 18 – 21, 2011 at Holland College in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
    Men and Women’s Soccer: November 9-12, 2011 at Collège Francois-Xavier-Garneau in Quebec, Que.
    Cross-Country Running: November 10-12, 2011 at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C.
    Badminton: March 1-3, 2012 at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C.
    Men’s Volleyball: March 8-10, 2012 at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, Alta.
    Women’s Volleyball: March 8-10, 2012 at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C.
    Men’s Basketball: March 15-17, 2012 at Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, N.S.
    Women’s Basketball: March 15-17, 2012 at Lethbridge College in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The Association’s French title, l’Association canadienne du sport collégial, will remain unchanged.
