CCAA Athletes Nominated for Sport BC College Athlete of the Year
(CORNWALL, Ont - February 1, 2011) - Three student athletes competing in the British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association have been named finalists in Sport BC’s 45th Annual Athlete of Year Awards.
Now in her third year playing volleyball with the Heat, Alex Basso has been highly decorated by the CCAA – last season she was a member of the women’s volleyball All Canadian team, won her second national championship with the Heat and was named National Championship MVP, Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year Across All CCAA Sports.
Camosun College basketball star Chelsea McMullen has amassed a similar list of honors; in addition to being named an Academic All-Canadian and National Scholar within the CCAA, she’s also been the BCCAA’s Championship MVP and Team All-Star.
For Reynold Stewart, the nomination is further recognition for his outstanding season with the Douglas College Royal’s men’s soccer team. In addition to being named the CCAA’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, he was the BCCAA’s leading scorer, Player of the Year, Championship MVP and a member of the All-Star Team.
The Sport BC Athlete of the Year awards recognizes B.C.’s best amateur athletes, coaches, and officials for outstanding performances in their sport over the 2010 season. Each finalist was nominated by their provincial sport organization or school, and voted for by a selection committee of B.C. sportswriters, broadcasters, athletes and amateur sport experts. Awards will be presented February 24, 2011 at the River Rock Show Theatre in Richmond, B.C.
