(Cornwall, Ont - Ocotober 21, 2010) The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association has declared its commitment to True Sport. True Sport is a national movement powered by Canadians who believe sport can transform lives and communities. True Sport lives in communities of every size, and includes every sport at every level. Members are committed to the principles of integrity, fair play, equity and diversity; the same values espoused by the CCAA.

The CCAA's mission is to enrich the lives of student-athletes through intercollegiate competition. Each year, over 9,000 CCAA student-athletes come together through sport, inspiring friendships, learning and personal growth. With the exception of family, sport is the most powerful influence on a young person's development. The way we play together shapes how we live together; respecting each other’s efforts, and handling both victory and defeat with grace.

The CCAA recognizes True Sport principles through awards for fair play, community service, and innovations in athletics. Our awards also recognize excellence among athletic directors, players and coaches across all sports. True Sport principles are further echoed in the CCAA Female Apprentice Coach program, where giving back is a common goal among participating apprentices and mentor coaches.

The True Sport principles express an approach to sport that often goes unspoken. By joining the True Sport Movement, you make a powerful statement: you declare that your group stands with thousands of others in saying Yes to the principles that promote good sport

The CCAA encourages all 109 of its member institutions to join the True Sport movement as a school. We in turn encourage you to put the challenge out to your teams to join as well.
