March 10, 2011 – Preston Tucker is the 2011 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year. Tucker is team captain and setter for the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat in Kelowna, B.C.

“Preston has impressive stats for a setter,” says Leigh Goldie, CCAA men’s volleyball convenor. “He’s the best player on the top-ranked team.”

Now in his fourth year with the Heat, Tucker has twice been named a CCAA All-Canadian and BCCAA All-Star. One of the nation’s best setters, he’s able to score points from both the service line and at the net. He and his team have a 20-match home court winning streak and have not lost a game there since November 2008.

When not competing with the Heat, Tucker referees and serves as a coach for various camps, clinics, schools and club teams.

The UBCO Heat currently occupy the top seed among the eight teams competing in the CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship. Games will take place Thursday March 10 to Saturday March 12 at Cégep de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Que.

The other nominees for Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year were Andrew Henry of Sheridan College, Nicolas Hoag of Cégep de Sherbrooke, Taylor Hunt of Red Deer College and Colin Rouse of University of New Brunswick Saint John.

Tucker received the award Wednesday, March 9 during the CCAA All Canadian banquet at the CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship presented by CKOI in Sherbrooke, Que. Player of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
