March 10, 2011 – Nigel Mullan is the 2011 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. Mullan coaches the Briercrest College and Seminary Clippers in Caronport, Saskatchewan.

“Nigel is a great choice for this award,” said Leigh Goldie, CCAA men’s volleyball convenor. “He’s really developed himself as a coach and has done an amazing job with the team.”

The Briercrest Clippers are the only team from Saskatchewan competing in the CCAA league. They qualified for the CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships and are currently seeded in second place among the eight teams competing. Games will take place Thursday March 10 to Saturday March 12 at Cégep de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Que.

Mullan made a noticeable improvement over last year’s season record; the Clippers currently hold a 17-3 win/loss record. Players Mullan has coached include two CCAA All-Canadians and three members of 2009’s Team Saskatchewan. He hopes to continue to build teams at Briercrest College and Seminary to compete in the ACAC and CCAA Championships.

When he’s not courtside with the Clippers, Mullan serves on the coaching team of Saskatchewan’s provincial team. His goal is to develop players of good character who will make good decisions both on and off the court.

The other nominees for Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year were Pascal Boulanger of Cégep de Sherbrooke, Justin Lynch of University of King’s College, Dave McAllister of Sheridan College and Rocky Olfert of Columbia Bible College.

Mullan received the award Wednesday, March 9 during the CCAA All Canadian banquet at the CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship presented by CKOI in Sherbrooke, Que.  Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
