Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year

Greg_Poitras_100The 2010 CCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year is Greg Poitras, from The University of British Columbia Okanagan

Since joining UBC Okanagan’s  coaching staff in 2005, Greg has been a key factor in the success of the Heat’s volleyball program.  To date his combined league and playoff record is 66 wins – 26 losses.  The 2009-10 season was supposed to be a rebuilding year, with key players moving on to CIS play.  However, the Heat became a dominant force within the BCCAA finishing first in league play with 16 wins and 0 losses, improving on last years record of 12 wins 4 losses.  This improvement is a testament to Poitras’s solid recruiting ability, excellent technical knowledge and teaching ability.

Coach Poitras’s dedication and desire to develop his student-athletes and team to it’s fullest potential is apparent by the countless hours he spends in the gym, planning practices, training sessions, scouting opponents and breaking down game tape.    Off the court he provides a positive example as an educator and role model, encouraging  the pursuit of excellence in all areas of his student-athletes lives.  He strives to keep student-athletes involved in the sport as a coach, official, event coordinators or camp clinicians.
Greg is a Level 3 certified Volleyball Coach, working on several Level 4 tasks and is involved with the Canadian Men’s National Team Program.

The Heat will be going for gold at the 2010 CCAA National Volleyball Championship hosted by Grant MacEwan University from March 11-13th.
