Keyano set to serve up a electrifying 2009 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship

(Cornwall, Ont. – February 12th, 2009)  The top men’s volleyball athletes from across the country will be meeting at Keyano College for the CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championships.

Keyano College is extremely excited to host the National Championships that is set to take place March 12th – 14th, 2009. Representatives from each conference including the host team Keyano Huskies, will be competing for bragging rights as the CCAA’s 2009 Men’s National Champions.

The 2009 CCAA Men’s Volleyball Nationals is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in the past several years. As the season winds down and playoffs approach in each of the conferences, there is no clear favourite at this point in time. “The three eastern conferences have had dominating teams all season while no one team has taken charge in either of the western conferences. King’s in the ACAA, Limoilou in the FQSE and Algonquin in the OCAA are undefeated and unchallenged so far and all have previous experience at national championships. Both the ACAC and BCCAA have six or seven teams with a chance at emerging as champions” Leigh Goldie, CCAA Men’s National Volleyball Convenor.

More than ever before, it appears that any of the eight teams that participate in Fort McMurray will have a legitimate shot at standing on the podium. ACAC teams have won the last 11 gold medals including Red Deer College’s record setting streak of eight consecutive championships. 2009 will be the year that the streak will be challenged as never before.

The preparations at Keyano College have been underway for well over a year and with last minute details being attended to, they are poised to host a very well-run tournament.

“Athletic Director Wade Kolmel has an enthusiastic Host Committee who are eager to show off some Fort McMurray hospitality. We are expecting that they are going to create a memorable experience for the student-athletes both on and off the court” Leigh Goldie, CCAA Men’s National Volleyball Convenor.

The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association is a national sport organization that enriches the lives of student-athletes through intercollegiate competition.
