2009 Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year
Keyano College’s Trent Mason is the winner of the 2009 CCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year.
As head coach of the Huskies, Trent has guided his team to a 17-3 season record, earning spot at the CCAA National Championships, and substantially improving upon last year’s record of 8 -14. With 6 returning players, a comprehensive competition plan was created with areas of focus being mental skills, team cohesion with the emphasis on TEAM.
Trent’s goal is to build a volleyball program at Keyano that is recognized and respected by all other academic institutions in Canada. Accomplishing these goals come by playing a large role in the development of volleyball, for all ages of children in Fort McMurray. Trent emphasizes respect, towards opponents, teammates and the game of volleyball no matter what the outcome is.
In somewhat of an isolated community, in Fort McMurray, Trent is constantly involved with his student athletes as coach, instructor, employer, academic advisor and friend. Through all these roles Trent has assisted in creating very respectful and responsible young men, who continue to be leaders in their classrooms and in their community.
Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
