2011 CCAA Men’s Soccer Players of the Month

M_AOTMNovember 4, 2011 - The CCAA has listed the CCAA Soccer Athletes of the Month for October. The CCAA Athlete of the Month program recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding performance and athletic accomplishments during that month.

The distinction is bestowed upon one male and one female student-athlete in each of the five CCAA member conferences; PACWEST, ACAC, OCAA, RSEQ and ACAA.

PACWEST
Jared Stephens, VIU Mariners
The VIU Mariners went undefeated this season with 8 wins and 3 ties, and Stephens was the team's go-to guy. He scored 6 goals, ranking him second in PACWEST scoring and earning him the 2011 PACWEST Player of the Year award. Stephens is a force to deal with, but when he starts to attract too much attention he has the skill to use his players around him, making Jared a double threat for his opponents.

ACAC
Cole Runge, Lethbridge Kodiaks
Cole is the team's co-captain and a tirelessly committed work horse. He scored four goals in one game and has a total of 10 goals in eight games, yet remains the most humble player on the team. He led the ACAC (north and south divisions) in overall goals scored.

OCAA
Marcelo Capozzolo, Humber Hawks
October was a month full of OCAA accolades for Capozzolo; he's been named an All-Star, the 2011 West Division Defensive Player of the Year, the 2011 Player of the Year, and took the conference championships with the Humber Hawks, who are contending for the 2011 CCAA Soccer National Championships.

RSEQ
Charles Arsenault, Élans du Francois-Xavier-Garneau
Arsenault was named the RSEQ's leading scorer, a member of the RSEQ All-Star team, and a CCAA Featured Athlete of the Week all during the month of October. In November he and the Élans du Francois-Xavier-Graneau will compete in the 2011 CCAA Soccer National Championships.

ACAA
Sam Karklins, UKC Blue Devils
Karklins has been a standout on the pitch throughout his four years with the Blue Devils. He is a gifted striker who has the ability to change games.  His offensive talent exploded in October with 9 goals, including three game winners. He is a two-time team MVP, leading scorer, ACAA All-Conference winner, and team captain.  During his entire career Karklins has been among the leading scorers in the ACAA.

Congratulations to all athletes on their performances this month!
