November 8, 2011 – The CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) has named Charles Arsenault the 2011 CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.
Arsenault is a second-year offensive midfield for the Collège François-Xavier-Garneau Élans of Quebec City, Que.
“Charles Arsenault is a worthy recipient of this award,” says Vince Amato, CCAA’s vice-president of marketing. “He plays with his head, and his performance is obviously having an impact on his team.”
It’s been an outstanding season for Arsenault. He played 807 regular season minutes out of a possible 900, participated in 15 of the Élans’ 24 goals, earned the position as the RSEQ conference’s leading scorer and received no yellow cards. As a result Arsenault has been named a CCAA Featured Athlete of the Week, an RSEQ All-Star, and a 2011 CCAA Men’s Soccer All-Canadian.
Arsenault is a determined player who volunteers with his former high school soccer team and has earned the respect of coaches, teammates, opponents and officials. The Collège François-Xavier-Garneau Élans finished with an 8-1-1 regular season record.
The other nominees for 2011 CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Year were Jose Acosta of the NAIT Ooks, Marcelo Capozzolo of the Humber College Hawks, Mike Corby of the St Thomas University Tommies and Jared Stephens of the Vancouver Island University Mariners.
