History Repeating in Men’s Soccer

HumberOctober 21, 2011 - With only six men’s teams admitted to the 2011 CCAA Soccer National Championships in Quebec City, squads are anxiously awaiting their conference championships, taking place October 28-30, 2011.

This season’s rankings seem to be a reflection of last year’s CCAA national championship results. The top three spots are currently occupied by the NAIT Ooks of Edmonton, Alta., the VIU Mariners of Nanaimo, B.C, and the Humber College Hawks of Etobicoke, Ont. None have been ranked lower than fourth place among the top 15.

Last year’s 2010 Big Kahuna CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championships were hosted by the NAIT Ooks, who after performing well all year narrowly lost out to the VIU Mariners in the gold medal game. The VIU Mariners took the gold trophy after 30 minutes of overtime and nearly 10 free kicks. NAIT finished silver to the BC squad, and the Humber College Hawks rounded out the medal category with bronze.

Next weekend’s conference championships will determine if the teams will make a repeat appearance at the 2011 CCAA Soccer National Championships.
