Francois-Xavier-Garneau to host 2011 Soccer
(CORNWALL, Ont - February 1, 2011) The 2011 CCAA Soccer championships will be hosted by Collège François-Xavier-Garneau in Québec, Québec. Separate men and women’s tournaments will take place November 9-12, 2011.
“Collège Francois-Xavier-Garneau has a rich history of hosting and participating in CCAA championships,” said Nicole Vachon, athletics coordinator at Collège Francois-Xavier-Garneau.”We believe we have the facilities and the expertise to host the best soccer teams in Canada.”
Matches will take play on campus on the exterior soccer field, which was completed just prior to the 2010 season. The field’s stands accommodate up to 2,000 spectators.
The Francois-Xavier-Garneau Elans are one of the RSEQ league’s most successful teams; the women’s soccer team took home gold at last year’s CCAA national championships in Alberta. As hosts, both the men’s and women’s teams are guaranteed to compete in the event, but this is the last year both the men and women’s tournaments will be hosted by one school. As of 2012, the event will be split among two member institutions.
