2010 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year
(Edmonton – November 9, 2010) Jamie Pollock has been named the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association 2010 Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year. Pollock oversees the Mount Royal University Cougars in Calgary, Alberta. The award is based on accomplishment in that sport for the current year.
Pollock’s team is nationally ranked by the CCAA, with an 8-1-1 record and 39/6 goals for/against. That is a significant improvement over the team’s previous stats of 6-3-1 with 31/10 goals for/against.
CCAA’s Ray Sarkis, vice-president of programs, was also impressed by Pollock’s extracurricular activities. “Jamie Pollock is very involved outside coaching,” said Sarkis, citing the Cougars on the Court program, in which Pollock’s student-athletes participated in the teaching of a physical education class for elementary school students.
As the Cougars coach, Pollock’s objective is to create a compact squad willing to take chances and compete to the fullest every time they step onto the field. Former player Kyle Yamada now plays for the Calgary United FC Villains.
Pollock is also an advocate for academics, and has graduated over 90 per cent of his student-athletes during his tenure in the East Coast with the University of New Brunswick and Mount Allison University.
The other nominees for the award were Richard Bennett of Mohawk College, Jason Brown of University of New Brunswick-Saint John, Charles Harvey of Collège Francois-Xavier-Garneau and Joe Ormerod of Douglas College.
Pollock received the award Tuesday, November 9 during the opening ceremonies banquet at the CCAA Big Kahuna Soccer National Championships in Edmonton. Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
