Seneca Sting declared 2009 CCAA Men’s Soccer Champions
The 2009 Big Kahuna/adidas Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Soccer National Championships came to an end on Saturday November 7, 2009 at Seneca College. The competition was fierce and with a surprising turn of events, the host team, Seneca Sting comes out as the Champions.
During the final game of the 2009 Championships the Seneca Sting took on Les Élans de Collège Francois-Xavier-Garneau. The game was extremely eventful as the two teams battled back and forth to claim their titles.
The first half was a hard fought battle by both teams. Claudio Posca from the Seneca Sting picked up the tempo early by putting Seneca’s first ball into the net. FX-Garneau however did not waste any time. Guillaume Nadeau and Patrick Dion from Les Élans scored a goal each in the first half putting FX-Garneau ahead going into the second half.
The second half was as exciting as the first. Both teams competed hard, but it was the Seneca Sting’s Mahmoud Mirsedeghi that would tie the game at 2-2.
The game continued into two additional 15 minute halves of extra time. The first half was uneventful and neither team managed to get the ball past the keepers. It was not until early in the second half of extra time, that Mahmoud Mirsedeghi pounded the ball into the back of Les Élans net. The game ended in a 3-2 win for the Seneca Sting.
