2009 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year
Algonquin College’s Kwesi Loney is the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association 2009 Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
As head coach of the Thunder, Kwesi guided his team to an 11-1-0 season record, capturing their sixth straight OCAA Provincial title and earning spot at the CCAA National Championships. With 6 returning players, Kwesi had his job cut out for him as he looked to find a quality group of first year players. His approach was simple, introduce an attractive, exciting brand of football, emphasizing the commitment to team play, work ethic and discipline.
Loney’s coaching goal is to maintain the success of the program, while graduating as many student-athletes along the way, ensuring the players enjoy the complete college experience. As coach, Kwesi strives for excellence on and off the pitch. Coach Loney stresses the importance of time management skills understanding that those management skills will serve them well as they work to balance academics and athletics.
Kwesi enjoys the ability to pass on his passion and love for the sport. He is actively involved in youth development with the Ottawa Fury soccer club, having coached for over 5 years, working with girls and boys aged 10-16.
Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
