2009 CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Year
Humber College Mid-Fielder, Andrew DaSilva, is the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association 2009 Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.
DaSilva, a fourth year player for the Hawks had an outstanding season scoring six goals in 11 games and leading his team to an undefeated season (11-0-1). His accomplishments this year have lead him to be recognized as CCAA Player of the Year, CCAA All Canadian, OCAA Player of the Year, OCAA All-Star and OCAA Western Division Champion.
Captain for the Hawks, Andrew is the player coaches and teammates looked to for leadership. What he brings to the pitch day in and day out are superior skills, sportsmanship, team play and leadership. His numerous awards attest to his skill set. Sportsmanship within the game is very important to DaSilva and is reflected in his play, receiving only one caution in two years of play. As a team player, DaSilva went from being the leading goal scorer on a team to the best ball distributor in the league. Leadership is Andrew’s best asset both on and off the field. Off the field he leads his team in a quiet, confident and sportsmanlike manner. On the field his leadership is seen on the scoreboard but not necessarily on the final goal tally. In every big game he has stepped up to either score the first goal or the insurance goal.
The Humber Athletic Department has described Andrew as humble and unassuming, appreciative of the opportunities afforded to him through education, and sport. Andrew gives back to his sport by assisting with soccer programs from the club system he played in.
Player of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
