CCAA Soccer Athletes of the Month
November 4, 2008--The CCAA announced today the CCAA Soccer Athletes of the Month for October. The CCAA Athlete of the Month program recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding event performance and athletic accomplishments during that month.
Awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each conference participating in the CCAA Soccer; the five conferences are Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA), Fédération québécoise du sport étudiant (FQSE) Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association (BCCAA).
From British Columbia:
Striker, Jagminder Gill is a third year student with the Douglas College Royals. Jag finished the season third in league scoring with twelve goals in ten games. His technical ability combined with his speed has made the Royals a force up front. As one of the captains, Jag has been an inspirational leader both on and off the field. He has the ability to elevate his play as well as the play of his teammates.
From Alberta:
Lethbridge College’s Kyle Yamada, is in his second year of the Business Administration Program. A versatile player who plays the midfield or striker, Kyle was second in scoring in the ACAC South Division and leading scorer for the Kodiaks. He is a catalyst for virtually all the Kodiaks goals this year from the mid field position. Kyle demonstrates strong leadership on and off the field, particularly when the team was down.
From Ontario:
Forward, Noel Ellerton is in his third year of Construction Engineering Program at George Brown College. Noel is the Huskies leading scorer, scoring in all eleven league games. During the month of October, Noel was also leading the OCAA in scoring averaging 1.27 goals per game.
From Quebec:
Mehdi Belakehal is a second year midfielder with Champlain College, Saint Lambert Cavaliers. Captain for the Cavaliers, Mehdi is a quiet leader who leads by example and rises to the occasion. He is a big game player who continues to raise his level of play. His vision and ability to make plays are his key strengths. He has been a force in Champlain’s midfield at the offensive end, as well as the defensive end when needed and was instrumental in leading his team to a perfect and undefeated regular season.
From the Atlantic:
Veteran Daniel Van der Linden is a 4th year student at St. Thomas University. Keeper for the Tommies, Daniel has played a big part helping his team make it into the playoffs. He has been a leader and a role model to the rest of the team. Dan is the captain of the team and can always be relied upon to help on or off the pitch. Dan possesses great leadership, sportsmanship, enthusiasm and commitment and is an invaluable asset to the team.
