Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year

Mike_raimbault_100 The 2010 CCAA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year is Mike Raimbault, from The University of Northern British Columbia.

With this being only his second season at the helm, Mike has taken a team that had only four returning players in 2008-09, led them to a season record of 12 wins and 6 losses, a provincial bronze medal and a fourth place finish at Nationals to a team in 2009-10 that has had only one loss in regular season,  claimed the BCCAA title and earned another trip to the National Championship.

A level three certified coach, Raimbault, concentrates on helping his student-athletes improve everyday emphasizing the need to play as a team and strive for excellence both on the court and in the class room.   Mike ensures his student-athletes are attending class, assists players who are in need of academic help, and makes sure they are socially, emotionally, and physically doing well.   It is also important that his team give back to the community on a regular basis.  The Timberwolves have committed countless hours visiting local elementary schools to teach basic basketball fundamentals and demonstrate the affiliation between athletics and academics.

Mike volunteers his time at the Basketball BC Northern Regional Training Centre; and helps out at Spring/Summer basketball camps, and the UNBC Outreach program at local elementary schools.

The Timberwolves will be going for gold at the 2010 CCAA National Basketball Championship hosted by SAIT Polytechnic, March 18-20, 2010.

Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
