Preview: 2011 PING CCAA Golf National Championship
September 10, 2012 - The 2011-2012 CCAA championship season kicks off with the 2011 PING CCAA Golf National Championship, hosted by Holland College of Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The championship tournament will take place October 18-21 at Brudenell River Golf Course in Roseneath, P.E.I.
“We consider Brudenell River Golf Course one of the best courses in Canada,” says Albert Roche, athletics director at Holland College. “It’s full of challenges and personality, along with a four-star golf resort with all the amenities. We’re looking forward to an exciting week hosting all the great players from across Canada.”
Men’s teams consist of 4 or 5 players, with only 4 counting towards the championship team. Each women’s team consists of 2 or 3 players, with only 2 counting towards the championship team. Individual players posting the lowest gross score for 54 holes of stroke play shall be declared winners of the individual competitions.
Athletes to watch out for include 2010 women’s individual gold medalist Josée Doyon, who made a big impression at her first CCAA championship last year. She’ll return to Collège Champlain St-Lawrence this fall.
On the men’s side, Humber College is losing several of the key players who dominated last year’s tournament, but head coach Ray Chateau still sees a team deep with talent. Former individual bronze medalist Adrian Cord is returning, and will be joined by several quality freshman players.
With the number of tournament participants growing every year, rivalry among competitors is sure to intensify. All will receive a warm welcome from Roche, who encourages both student-athletes and their families to attend the open tournament. “This event is the perfect opportunity to watch great golf and enjoy some wonderful Island hospitality.”
