Four Humber Hawks to Represent Canada at Summer Universiade

MarkHoffmanJune 20, 2011 - Four members of the Humber College Hawks golf team will represent Canada in golf at the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China.

 

 

 

The tournament will take place August 17-20 at Mission Hills Golf Club.
 
Humber student-athletes Gregory Belsito, Adrian Cord and Mark Hoffman will compete on the green, while Humber’s head golf coach Ray Chateau has been tapped as team leader.

Mark Hoffman recently captured the individual men’s title at the 2011 Canadian University/College Championships. He shot a 3-under par 69 in the final round and was 1-under par for the tourney, helping to garner the men’s team title for the Humber Hawks. The 22-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., also won the Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Championship in 2010 and finished third at the Scottish University Championship in 2009.

The six-member Universiade men’s team also includes Humber teammates Gregory Belsito of Thornhill and Adrian Cord of Etobicoke, Ont. Belsito was fourth at the University/College Championship, while Cord tied for ninth.

Ray Chateau previously served as Team Canada's head coach in Bangkok in 2007. The top Canadian performer in Bangkok was Humber College's Michael Zizek, who placed 15th  in the men’s competition. Chateau also coached the Canadian entry at the 2004 FISU world championships and was team leader at the event in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

The Summer Universiade is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries. The Universiade is open to full-time post-secondary students age 17-28.
