Humber Hawks Men's Golf Team Wins 2011 Canadian University/College Championship
June 3, 2011 - The Humber Hawks men’s golf team has captured the 2011 Canadian University/College Championship.
Humber headed into the fourth and final round with a solid fifteen stroke lead over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Although the BC team made up some ground early they were unable to take a serious run, and the final tally saw the Hawks win by 18 strokes.
Humber dominated both the Ontario and Canadian College golf scene this season, winning those titles by big margins. In fact, Humber swept gold, silver and bronze in individual play at the CCAA nationals.
Humber’s Mark Hoffman captured the individual championship as he played flawless golf in the fourth and final round. He entered the day just a stroke up on UBC’s Andrew Robb but completely took the tournament over as he recorded a score of 69 on the day, and won by 6 strokes over Garrett Rank of the University of Waterloo.
“I am so proud of the team, not only at this, the most challenging and prestigious event of the year, but with their efforts all year.” Said Hawk head coach Ray Chateau. “Their commitment was unmatched in my time as a coach and that came shining through as they completed the perfect season.”
