CCAA Appoints Michael Duggan 2010 Golf Coach of the Year
(Cornwall, Ont - October 12, 2010) – The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association has named coach Michael Duggan the CCAA 2010 Golf Coach of the Year. Duggan is the first recipient of the inaugural award, which is based on accomplishment in the sport for the current year. He serves as head coach of the Durham College men and women’s varsity golf program.
Duggan’s athletes enjoy success on the provincial and national level. The team’s season highlights include the Fleming Invitational, with first-place finishes for both men and women’s teams, first and second-place finishes in the women’s individual competition, and two Durham players tying for second place in the men’s individual competition. The Durham College Open resulted in a first-place win for the women’s team, first and second-place finishes in the women’s individual competition, and a first-place finish in the men’s individual competition.
Duggan has been the head coach of the Durham College golf program for 12 seasons, during which the team participated in nine straight CCAA national championships. He was instrumental in the inception of golf as a championship at the CCAA level in 2000 and served as its first CCAA national golf convenor for nine years. Duggan has twice been selected to represent Canada as an assistant coach at the FISU (International University Sports Federation) world university gold championships. He currently serves as golf convenor for the OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) which in 2010 named him the inaugural winner of the OCAA Golf Coach of the Year.
Duggan’s goal is to continue to grow the game of golf at the collegiate level.
The CCAA 2010 Golf Coach of the Year award was presented to Duggan at the PING CCAA Golf Championships Awards Banquet in Kamloops, B.C. Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the official ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
Michael Duggan was nominated for the CCAA Golf Coach of the Year award by the OCAA. The other nominees were Bill Bilton Jr. of Thompson Rivers University, Fred Colgan of Champlain St Lawrence College, Jeff Donovan of Holland College and Scott Bergdahl of Red Deer College.
