NAIT Ooks Welcomes Curlers to the 2013 CCAA Curling National Championship
June 14 2012 – The NAIT Ooks of Edmonton, Alta. are eager to welcome CCAA curlers to the 2013 CCAA Curling National Championship.
CCAA curling was resurrected last year when the Fleming Knights successfully hosted the 2012 CCAA Curling Invitational Championship after a 20-year absence. The NAIT Ooks’ women’s team earned a bronze medal, and hope to continue their success on their home ice.
“NAIT has a rich tradition of curling excellence,” says athletics coordinator Gregg Meropoulis. “We won CCAA women’s gold in 1983 and 1988, as well as more than 30 ACAC Championships in men, women and mixed events. We’ve also watched former NAIT curler Kevin Martin go on to become a junior Canadian championship, 5-time Brier winner and a 2010 Olympic champion.”
The four-day event takes place March 20-23, 2013 at Edmonton’s Avonair Curling Club. It will feature eight men’s and eight women’s teams competing in a round-robin tournament format.
