RuiLin Huang, 2012 CCAA Women’s Badminton Player of the Year

RuiLin100February 29 2012 - Three-time CCAA women’s singles badminton champion RuiLin Huang is now a four-time CCAA Women’s Badminton Player of the Year.

 

 

 

Huang, who competes for the Douglas Royals in New Westminster, B.C., was previously bestowed with the award in 2009, 2010 and 2011. She’s also a four-time CCAA All-Canadian and CCAA Badminton Player of the Month. This season, her accomplishments include winning all four PACWEST tournaments with a 26-0 record, and winning gold and silver at the 2012 Seattle Open.

"RuiLin is in a class of her own," says Alf McGuire, CCAA national badminton convenor. "Her performances are outstanding."

Huang is also a junior coach who volunteers with Douglas College and the B.C. Games. She’s currently working on her level 2 NCCP certificate.

The Douglas Royals are first in the CCAA national rankings; they are undefeated in league play and have been PACWEST champions seven years in a row.

The other nominees for 2012 CCAA Women’s Badminton Player of the Year were Heather Murray of the Mount Allison Mounties, Tracy Wong of the Humber Hawks, and Jessica Yu of the NAIT Ooks.

Huang received the award Wednesday, February 29 during the CCAA Badminton Championship Awards Banquet at the 2012 CCAA Badminton National Championship in Kamloops, B.C. CCAA Player of the Year recipients receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
