2012 CCAA Badminton Athletes of the Month

2BAD100February 1 2012 - The 2012 CCAA Athletes of the Month for January are comprised of eight student-athletes competing in CCAA badminton.

 

 

 

The CCAA Athlete of the Month program recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding event performance and athletic accomplishments during the month.

Badminton awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each of the four participating conferences: PACWEST (Pacific Western Athletic Association) ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) and ACAA (Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association).

Logan Campbell – Douglas Royals
Logan is now in his second year competing in men’s doubles and mixed doubles for the top-ranked Douglas Royals. He holds a season record of 39 wins and 0 losses at PACWEST’s three badminton tournaments, and recently took the men’s singles and men’s doubles titles at the Alberta Series tournament.

RuiLin Huang – Douglas Royals
The 2011 CCAA Female Badminton Athlete of the Year has been integral to the Royals’ success; the fourth-year athlete competes in women’s singles and women’s doubles and has now won 28 straight PACWEST tournaments, with a perfect 26-0 season record.

Jason Chou - NAIT Ooks
Jason has become a player the Ooks count on to win big matches. After winning the 2011 ACAC men's doubles title and earning bronze at the 2011 CCAA Badminton National Championship in his rookie year, Jason has followed up with three straight ACAC victories in men's doubles, as well as competing in men's singles and mixed doubles.

 Mary Smith - Red Deer Queens
The second-year veteran has led this year's Red Deer badminton team from day one. Mary's been a force in the singles event, finishing first, second and third in ACAC tournaments; she's also earned two second-place finishes in women's doubles and two third-place finishes in mixed doubles. Her efforts have resulted in Red Deer's best national ranking in over a decade.

Renee Yip - Humber Hawks
Renee's accomplishments include a 2010 CCAA Badminton National Championship title in miced doubles, as well as being named a 2010 CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA Badminton Athlete of the Year and OCAA Overall Athlete of the Year. So far this season she's won a gold medal at every event she's attended.

Simon Yip - Humber Hawks
Simon has been one of the OCAA's top doubles players for the past four years and has represented Ontario at the CCAA Badminton National Championship. He's taken home as least one medal from each of this season's tournaments.

Bryan Downey - Mount Allison Mounties
Bryan competes in men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles; he was undefeated in the month of January and has not lost a match in any category all year. The third-year athlete’s unmatched work ethic has made him more dominant with each performance. 

Heather Murray - Mount Allison Mounties
Heather competes in women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. She’s undefeated in the month of January and has yet to lose a match this season. She continues to assert herself as the top player in the ACAA conference with every performance.

Congratulations to all athletes on their accomplishments!

The 2012 CCAA Badminton National Championship will be hosted by Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C March 1-3, 2012.
