Top Teams Emerge in OCAA and ACAA Badminton

badacaa100January 18, 2012 - Badminton tournaments held by the OCAA and ACAA conferences have identified some of the top teams to beat in the upcoming 2012 CCAA Badminton National Championship.

Four institutions competed in the ACAA’s second tournament of the season hosted by Mount Allison University. The Mount Allison Mounties continued their domination of the sport, earning two first-place tournament finishes this season. The latest tournament saw them earn 90 out of a possible 100 points.

Their closest competitors are the UKC Blue Devils, who earned second place at both tournaments. The Sainte-Anne Dragons and Holland Hurricanes follow close behind, with both earning a third and fourth-place finish this season.

The Centennial Colts hosted the most recent OCAA invitational this past weekend, which saw a few select squads stand out among the competition. The champions and runners-up in all five tournament events were from George Brown, Humber or Seneca.

The Humber Hawks earned three tournament titles in the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles events; as well as second place in men's doubles.

George Brown athletes took home the men's singles and men's doubles titles, and earned second-place finishes in men and women's singles.

The Seneca Sting came away with second-place finishes in the women's and mixed doubles events.

The 2012 CCAA Badminton National Championship will be hosted by TRU in Kamloops, B.C March 1-3, 2012.
