RuiLin Huang appointed 2011 CCAA Female Badminton Player of the Year

March 2, 2011 - RuiLui Huang has been named the 2011 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association’s Women’s Badminton Player of the Year.
This is the third year in a row she has earned the distinction. Huang competes in women’s singles and women’s doubles for the Douglas College Royals in New Westminster, B.C.
“RuiLin Huang has had the ultimate season,” said Vince Amato, executive member of the CCAA. “She’s undefeated, and she’s involved in the community. It’s more than just winning.”
Huang has earned six titles this season; four for women’s singles and two in women’s doubles. Her current season record of 45 wins and zero losses brings her 3-year CCAA career total to an incredible 112 wins and one loss.
Huang is enrolled in business accounting at Douglas College, but exercises her leadership skills working as a coach at Douglas College Jr. Academy and volunteering at school and at the local community centre. She’s already completed her level 1 NCCP certification.
The Douglas College Royals sit in first place in the CCAA national rankings, and have been undefeated in league play for six years.
The other nominees for Women’s Badminton Player of the Year were Heather Murray of Mount Allison University, Tracy Wong of Humber College, and Sun Yang of NAIT.
Huang received the award Wednesday, March 2 during the CCAA All Canadian banquet at the CCAA Badminton Championship in Sackville, N.B. Player of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
