2010 CCAA Men’s Badminton Player of the Year

AlvinLau100Fifth year veteran, Alvin Lau has been named Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Badminton Player of the Year for a second consecutive year.

Alvin Lau has had an impressive season thus far recording 31 wins and 2 losses, capturing five titles; three Mixed Doubles and two Men’s Doubles.  Lau, in his fifth and final year for the Royals, looks to add another CCAA Gold medal to his collection, previously earning National titles in Mixed Doubles(3) and Men’s Doubles(1).

Captain for the Royals, Alvin’s leadership, skill and versatility has helped guide the Douglas Royals to another BCCAA title.  In addition to his post-secondary success, Lau is making his mark on the National and International scene.  He was selected to the Canadian National Team and represented Canada at the Thomas Cup in Peru.  Lau won the 2010 Yonex Canadian Championships in Men’s Doubles and was a finalist in Mixed Doubles; Won the 2010 Seattle Open in Mixed Doubles and was a finalist in Men’s Doubles; Won the 2010 Toronto Open in Men’s Doubles and was a finalist in Mixed Doubles; Won the 2009 Saskatoon Open in Men’s Doubles and was a finalist in Mixed Doubles.  He also was a finalist at the BC Open and US Open in Mixed Doubles and a Finalist at the Montreal International in Men’s Doubles.

Lau’s success on the court has garnered recognition as BCCAA Player of the Week and Month ; CCAA Athlete of the Month; 2009 Premier Award Winner; 2009 Douglas Player of the Year; 2009 CCAA Male Badminton Player of the Year.

Alvin is a dedicated volunteer sharing his love of the sport through coaching at the Shuttlesport/Douglas College Jr. Academy.  He is currently completing his Level 2 NCCP certification.

Player of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
