2009 CCAA Badminton Athletes of the Month

The CCAA is honoring this past season's athletes of the month for badminton.

From British Columbia:

Ruilin Huang, is a first year student-athlete at Douglas College.  Ruilin has had a tremendous rookie season thus far for the Royals.  She has won six straight singles titles from three BCCAA tournaments, two Provincial ranking and one National ranking tournament.  A fantastic role model for up-coming athletes, Ruilin works extremely hard in practices and quietly takes care of business on the court.

Fourth year veteran, Alvin Lau, from Douglas College is in excellent form this season.  In Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Collegiate play, Alvin has a record of 28 -2 leading the Royals to first place in the BCCAA conference.  As team captain, Alvin is a leader by example, working hard on the court and in the gym.

From Alberta:

Grace Box, is in her second year at Concordia University College of Alberta.  Grace has had a sound start to the season for the Thunder, by capturing the women’s doubles event at Mount Royal College and placing second in the women’s singles division.

Second year student-athlete, Darren Hong, from Mount Royal College competed in all three events at the Mount Royal College tournament, leading the way with an especially strong performance to capture a first place finish in men’s doubles, defeating the top seeded team from the ACAC.  Other results from that tournament include fourth in singles narrowly missing out on third place, and ninth in mixed doubles.

From Ontario:

Cambrian College’s Jody Carruthers, has had a successful season so far.   This second year student-athlete has competed in five tournaments bringing home three first place finishes in women’s singles, and four first place finishes in the women’s doubles event.  In addition, she recorded two second place finishes in women’s singles and mixed doubles.

Humber College rookie, Mark Wong has found success on the court this year for the Hawks, in all three disciplines.  In the two official collegiate sanctioned tournaments, Mark recorded a first place and second place finish in the men’s singles events as well as two first place finishes in the men’s doubles events and first place in the mixed doubles division.  Other open tournament finishes included first place finishes in Men’s doubles “B” flight and Mixed doubles “A” flight.

From the Atlantic:

Dianne Boudreau, is a second year student-athlete for the Universitè Sainte-Anne Dragons and the uncontested leader of the team.  Her leadership and work ethic inspires her teammates and translates to success on the court.  Dianne dominated opponents at the ACAA Tournament held at University of King’s College in the women’s singles event going 3 – 0  and placing second in mixed doubles,  helping the Dragons to a second place overall finish.

Fourth year veteran from Mount Allison University,  Brent Barkhouse is one of the ACAA’s most dominant players.  Barkhouse, the co-captain for the Mounties, has won all of his games played this season, which places him first overall in both men’s singles and men’s doubles.

Congratulations to all!
