2009 CCAA Badminton Coach of the Year

(Cornwall, Ont. – March 4, 2009)   The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) is pleased to name Chad Cargill from Red Deer College as the winner of the 2009 CCAA Badminton Coach of the Year.

As head coach of the Red Deer Kings/Queens, Chad was challenged this year with a much younger and inexperienced team compared to previous years. However, the team steadily improved throughout the season and with most players returning next year, the Red Deer squad is expected to make great strides and contend in the ACAC.

Chad strives every year to get as many of his athletes on the podium as possible, nevertheless his ultimate goal is to train his student-athletes, enabling them to reach their next level of play.

Off the court, Chad is a certified NCCP Level II coach, who ensures that his student-athletes thrive both in the classroom and on the court. Under his guidance and leadership, the Kings/Queens Badminton program is one of the best academic teams in the ACAC. Last years team had the highest GPA of all teams at Red Deer College.  In addition, Chad supports his student-athletes as they coach within the area high schools that would otherwise not receive quality coaching in the sport of badminton.

Coach of the Year recipients receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association is a national sport organization that enriches the lives of student-athletes through intercollegiate competition.
