2009 CCAA Men’s Badminton Player of the Year
(Cornwall, Ont. – March 4, 2009) Veteran Alvin Lau is the winner of the 2009 CCAA Men’s Badminton Player of the Year.
From Douglas College, Alvin is no stranger to the CCAA National Badminton Championships. This year he will be vying for a fourth gold medal, competing in the men’s doubles event. Previously, Alvin has won three, CCAA National Mixed Doubles titles in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
His outstanding performance and skills have merited numerous athletic awards and achievements including BCCAA Male Player of the Month in January, recipient of the 2009 Premier Sports Award, and has been named a member of the Canadian Senior National Badminton Team.
As the unquestioned leader of the Royals, Alvin has led his team to a fourth straight Provincial title with a record of 37-1, winning six events (3 men’s doubles and 3 mixed doubles). Alvin’s excellent work ethic and consistent performance provide a tremendous example for his teammates.
Outside of the Royals, Alvin, coaches at the Shuttlesport/Douglas College Badminton Academy and volunteers once a week coaching young children. He is also the Vice-President of Marketing at Shuttlesport where his main role is the promotion of badminton.
