The outstanding performances of student-athletes at the 2017 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championship were recognized yesterday evening at an awards gala hosted by Collège Lionel-Groulx in Laval, Quebec.
Athletes were greeted with a red carpet and modern photo area where they could capture lasting memories from the event. The awards ceremony began with the national anthem sung by Frédérique Cyr-Deschênes, a Nordiques runner.
Quebec’s RSEQ swept the team competition, with the Collège Lionel-Groulx Nordiques women Cégep de Sherbrooke Volontaires men taking the top spot on the podium. Cégep de Sherbrooke was particularly dominating, placing three runners in the top 10.
The races were very closely contested, both on the men’s and women’s side. The silver medal went to the SAIT Trojans’ women and the Fanshawe Falcons’ men.
The UBCO Heat women’s team and SAIT Trojans men’s team finished third.
The students left the championship with trophies in hand, medals around their necks and smiles on their faces.
