Viens named CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year

Nov. 10, 2015 – Evelyne Viens of the Élans de Garneau has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Year.

She received the award this evening at the 2015 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship banquet, hosted by Fleming College in Peterborough, ON.

Viens led the powerhouse Élans and the conference with 13 goals this season and was named the RSEQ’s most valuable player.

“Evelyne has been a force on the field all-season long at Garneau,” said Marlene Ford, CCAA Women’s Soccer Convenor. “She is always looking to help motivate teammates with her play.”

Last fall, Viens led Garneau to a CCAA National Championship in Medicine Hat, AB, and she was named the tournament’s MVP.

Viens, an RSEQ All-Star for the second straight season, always puts the team first. The second-year forward developed into a leader this season at Garneau.

Viens also suits up for the Haute St-Charles U18 club team.

CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

Other nominees for the award were Marni McMillan of the Douglas Royals, Kayla Michaels of the NAIT Ooks, Jade Kovacevic of the Fanshawe Falcons and Briar Roberts of the Holland Hurricanes.

The CCAA is a national sport organization enriching the academic experiences of student-athletes through intercollegiate sport.
